"I rushed for 135 yards on 12 carries in our scrimmage with Erath," said the 5-foot-9, 175-pounder, who could see action at a variety of positions on the next level. "I had a couple of long runs. On one play - a sweep to the left - I scored from 70 yards out.
"I got the ball and headed around the corner, and our tight end and tackle each flattened their man. Our fullback, who is actually the second-string fullback, led on the play. Once I got into open field, our wide receiver pushed his man to the inside, and so I made a cut to the outside and scored."
Cecilia, which finished 7-5 last year, will rely on a strong running game, featuring Carter and first-string FB Jeremy Doucette. A punishing blocker, Doucette owns the school record in the bench press (365 pounds).
"I had a couple of other nice runs on some tosses and also some isolations where Jeremy was leading," said Carter, who has received scholarship offers from Tulsa, Memphis, Tulane, and the University of Louisiana, among other schools.
"We won the scrimmage two touchdowns to none," he continued. "Our defense was good and didn't allow any long plays.
"Erath has a good team. They do a nice job of running the option out of the double slot offense."
Carter and Cecilia will be back in action next week against 5A Lafayette High in the jamboree.
"I hear that they have a good quarterback and a back that runs hard," said Carter of the Lions.
