Two at the top for Hebert

Chet Hebert is entering his senior season at Archbishop Shaw and the highly-regarded offensive lineman has two favorite colleges in mind as he and the Eagles being practice on Monday. Find out which schools are at the top of Hebert's list.

Chet Hebert participated in Louisiana Tech football camp recently and the visit solidified the Bulldogs as a contender to land the big offensive lineman from Archbishop Shaw in Marrero.

"My two favorites are Tech and Southern Miss," said Hebert, who earned Class 5A first-team all-state accolades in 2009. "I'm not looking to commit anytime soon though. I have offers from Tech and ULM and I'm getting significant interest from Southern Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette. I've been to a couple of camps at Southern Miss, and they've said that they want to see me in one or two games this year before they offer."

Hebert enjoyed his brief stay in Ruston for football camp.

"It was nice. I really liked it," he said. "Coach (Jeff) Koonz took me to meet with the academic advisors and they explained everything about that side of the school. Coach (Petey) Perot is a really cool guy and I learned a lot of from him in the short time I was there.

"Coach Dykes was cool. He explained that he didn't want me to commit too soon and then have to back off if I changed my mind. He didn't put any pressure on me to commit and I liked that. It made me feel good. We talked about me coming up during the fall for an official visit."

Shaw is a perennial power in Louisiana and the Eagles are looking strong again this year.

"We'll be good," said Hebert. "We'll contend for the district title. Our defense is young, so we'll have some hiccups in the first couple of games while they get experience.

"Lawrence Breaud will play all positions for us - quarterback, running back, wide receiver, punt return, kick return. He's a do-what-you-need player who does everything."
