El Dorado beat Watson Chapel to stay #1 in 6A. Parkers Chapel beat Fouke to move to 4-0 for the first time in the program's short history.
James Ford
had 152 yards and two touchdowns as #1 El Dorado beat #3 Watson Chapel 36-32. The junior running back has erased any doubt about how the Wildcats would replace last year's running back duo of
Dexter Toney
and
Justin Billings
.
Across town, another running back was busy makinga name for himself.
Shavonte Evans
rushed for 331 yards and six touchdowns as Parkers Chapel beat Fouke 40-0. The sophomore El Dorado transfer dropped a long pass early, but made up for it by running around and through the Fouke defense.
After finishing 1-9 last year, Parkers Chapel is 4-0 under first year Head Coach Mark King. The Trojans are 1-0 in District 7-3A. Evans had touchdown runs of 10, 53, 41, 26, 55, and 38 yards.
Evans took the pressure off of senior quarterback Jacob Midyett. Midyett has been the Trojans sole source of offense for years. The 6'2" Midyett runs the offense for Coach King and leads the defense from his middle linebacker position.
The El Dorado win over Watson Chapel was the biggest matchup in the State last week. This week, Junction City hosts Bearden in a #1 against #2 matchup in Class 2A.
Three of the best defensive linemen in the State will be featured.
Byran Jones
, with multiple BCS offers, anchors the defense for Junction City inside. 6'6"
Davidell Collins
and defensive end
Chris Jenkins
form what might be the State's best defensive line tandem for Bearden.
Bearden beat Strong 34-0 on Friday behind big running back Rickey Brown. Brown had 112 yards on just nine carries. The 6'1" senior will be a good test for Jones and the Dragon interior.
Junction City beat Norphlet 52-0. Alan Turner had a 58 yard touchdown run and a 46 yard interception return for a touchdwon.
South Central Arkansas boasts three very good 4-0 teams. Make your way to Junction City to see two of them in action on Friday.
