I caught up with Paige after class today and spoke with him about becoming a Louisiana Tech Bulldog and he had several very positive things to say about LA Tech.
Several weeks ago I had reported that Paige was only looking to go the Junior College route. I ask him why did this decision change. He said, "Coach Dooley and I talked about the changes going on at Tech and I liked what he had to say. I then realized I did have to do the JUCO thing."
I then asked him why leave Tennessee? His response was not surprising after you watch the interview he had at the U.S. Army All-American game in 2006 when he talked about the connection he made with the former Tennessee coaching staff. His reason for leaving was "because of the coaching staff change. I didn't fit in with what they were trying to do, so I thought it was time to part ways."
Why he chose Louisiana Tech was an obvious question I had to ask. The reasons all go back to the changes Coach Dooley is making in the culture of LA Tech football, he said, "things have changed tremendously since he came out of high school in 2006 and I want to be a part of the changes. It's an exciting time to be a Bulldog." He also has friends on the team since he prepped at Sterlington High School right down the road from Ruston in Sterlington, LA.
During the spring game at Tennessee this past spring Paige suffered a neck injury while running a fade route to the end-zone when he slid head-first into a brick wall inside Tennessee's Neyland Stadium. I asked him how he was progressing in the recovery. "It was a minor setback, but I am 100% and ready to go."
This makes the second former Tennessee Vol to announce his intentions to become a Louisiana Tech Bulldog. Just two weeks ago, Tatum, TX product Lennon Creer told Tech Coaches he wanted to be a Bulldog. Much speculation lately has lead many in the Tech community to think Creer was wavering from his decision. I asked Paige if he had spoken with Creer and if he knew what his plans were. "From what I hear, he wants to be a Bulldog and will be in summer school next session."
As Ahmad said these are exciting times at Louisiana Tech and two former Scout.com 4* athletes want to be a part of it.
