Texas Well Represented
Posted Feb 4, 2009
After signing nine players from Texas in 2008, the most from any state, Louisiana Tech signed nine players again from the Lone Star State. While Louisiana had more players in the class in 2009, a total of thirteen, it is obvious that Tech has eyes for Texas players.
have developed a pretty good relationship over their senior seasons. The two Fort Worth area stars will try to take that connection to the field at Louisiana Tech. Raulston, the 94th ranked quarterback in the country, will have a reliable target in Brown. Brown had offers from New Mexico, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Colorado State. Raulston had offers from Iowa State, Houston, and Air Force.
Helping pave the way will be East Texas linemen
and Vince Cano. Sheppard had an offer from Houston and Cano had offers from SMU and Rice. Another East Texas standout, Texarkana safety C.J. Broades, will head over to Ruston, LA for college. Broades was a star receiver but will help out in the defensive secondary for the Bulldogs.
Assistant Coach Eric Russell opened Central Texas for Louisiana Tech recruiting last year when he successfully recruited R.P. Stuart from Austin, TX. This year Russell recruited Andre Taylor from Round Rock and
from Pflugerville. Taylor, who had an offer from Army, is the only tight end in the 2009 class for Louisiana Tech. Enemkplali, who put up big numbers at defensive end, will likely play outside linebacker for the Bulldogs.
The first commitments for the 2009 class were Matt Nelson, a kicker from Cibolo, TX and DJ Morrow, a running back for Palestine, TX set things in motion over the summer. Nelson will have a chance to start right away while Morrow could possibly redshirt with
returning for his senior season.
Taylor, Morrow, and Brown will be among several weapons for Raulston to rely on in the future. Taylor will compete with
for playing time in the future at tight end. Brown will be in the mix with several receivers from both the 2008 and 2009 classes. Morrow will be among the backs looking to fill in for Porter after he graduates. Most of the offense for Louisiana Tech comes from the last two classes. Offensive Coordinator Frank Scelfo has plenty of weapns at his disposal for the next few years.
