Javontay Crowe's move from Ruston High to Louisiana Tech was further than one might imagine.
Few people know that the 6'1 187lb linebacker was slated to star for the Southwood Cowboys.
Javontay Crowe
's family had relatives in Ruston and thought his chances of playing college football would increase if playing for Ruston High School. The move paid dividends for both parties. His high school career for the Bearcats included three straight trips to the playoffs. This season ended with a heartbreaking loss to eventual 5A state champion, The Desterhan Wildcats.
Living so close to campus, Javontay is no stranger to
Louisiana Tech
. He attended all home games and said he chose Tech over Houston, SMU and several smaller schools including Northwestern State. He was recruited by Conroy Hines and watched film with Coach Spangler on his visit. He projects to play SS, WLB or nickel back.
Javontay chose Louisiana Tech because he has seen all the progress Coach Dooley has made and he looks forward to playing for him. He is excited about all the traveling the Bulldogs do and looks forward to a WAC championship! His family is very important to him and having the chance to play so close to home was an added bonus. He plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice.
Javontay is quick to give credit and praise to his high school defensive coach J.P. Dunbar. "Coach Dunbar helped me get better. He corrected my technique, got after me when I did wrong and praised me when I did right." Javontay also had kind words for RHS track coach David Anderson who improved his footwork. That may have been the best help he needed, because after all it is just a walk across the street. From a Bearcat to a Bulldog, we welcome you Javontay.
