Louisiana Tech took another step toward a bowl game with their second big win in a row. The win over San Jose was the Bulldogs first win on the road this year.

Louisiana Tech is now tied in the loss column for second place in the WAC with San Jose and Nevada. San Jose travels to Nevada on Saturday, giving Tech a chance to gain even more ground in the WAC bowl race. Nevada, Fresno, and Hawaii all join Tech with 5 wins on the season.

The Bulldog defense was dominant on Saturday. It was Tech's first shutout in 12 years and they were one play away from holding the Spartans to less than 100 yards. David Richmond's 62 yard reception late in the game helped San Jose finish with 148 total yards. A week after shuting down the run against Fresno State, Tech held San Jose to just 30 yards rushing. THe Spartans had just six first downs for the game.

D'Anthony Smith led the Bulldogs with 7 tackles, including two tackles for a loss and one sack. Weldon Brown had an interception in the second quarter to set up Tech's first score. Terry Carter picked off a pass on the next possession and ran it in from 50 yards for a score.

In the 4th quarter, the Bulldog offense put the game away with an 84 yard drive to put Tech up 21-0 with just over ten minutes left. Tech received the ball after Richmond's long reception. San Jose was unable to capitalize and the Tech defense stuffed them on 4th down.

After traveling to Nevada on Saturday, San Jose will finish the season against Fresno State. Tech has a good chance to finish in second place. After playing San Jose, Nevada still has to play Boise and then they travel to Ruston for a season ending showdown with Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs host Utah State on Saturday and then travel to NMSU next week.
