Cameron threw for 47 touchdowns and nearly 5,000 yards over his final two years of high school for coach George Hurley. He helped lead the Panthers to the California Division II high school playoffs before losing to Hart in the semifinals. The Panthers finished 11-2 on the year and tied for the Marmonte League title at 6-1 in league play.

"We've been evaluating Colby since May of last year, and he has all the intangible qualities you look for in a quarterback," Dooley said. "He comes from great stock and as he develops physically, I am confident he can make a positive impact on our program."

Cameron's brother Jordan originally signed with BYU to play basketball. He transferred to USC this fall to play football after redshirting at BYU in 2006-07. His sister Brynn is also a student-athlete at USC playing guard for the Women of Troy.
