"I was recruited by Coach (Petey) Perot and Coach (Stan) Eggen," Bickham said. "Coach Perot is responsible for recruiting my area, and Coach Eggen is the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator."
Why did Bickham decide to commit to Tech?
"It's a program on the rise and I knew the academics would get me where I want with a degree," he said. "I'm not just interested in football. I'm also interested in academics."
Bickham picked the Bulldogs over offers from Memphis, McNeese State and Nicholls State.
He led St. Amant to its best season in years.
"My senior year went good although we finished with a first-round playoff loss," Bickham said. "We were 5-5 each of the previous two years, and it was a big deal for this senior class to have a winning season."
The 23rd-seeded Gators were nudged out of the postseason by district rival Dutchtown (No. 10).
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Bickham registered 25 solo tackles, 38 assists, 12 tackles for loss, four sacks, 16 "quarterback hurries" and forced two fumbles.
He talked more about the 2012 campaign.
"We're a 5A program and everybody on that level has athletes," he said. "This year's team, with the personnel and attitude...everybody believed."
