South Grand Prairie has a stockpile of talent on its roster, including '13 offensive guard Breyun Owens. Read further to learn more about the dominant 6-foot-3, 295-pounder...

South Grand Prairie's offense reads like a Who's Who of college football prospects.

QB Jared Johnson has offers from Oregon and Pitt. RBs Leonard Aikens and Quaze Woods are both highly-talented, and offensive linemen Travis Wiggins and Breyun Owens are outstanding players who open holes in the running game (and protect Johnson when he throws).

Owens will only enter his junior season this fall, but he's already an experienced performer.

"I started as a sophomore and played some as a freshman," he said. "I've played both guard positions and center over the past two years. The coaches moved me around to see where I'm best at, and they've decided on right guard."

Owens, who already has his first scholarship offer (from Northwestern State), has a wide variety of interests when it comes to college programs.

"My favorites are Oklahoma, Princeton, Notre Dame and Duke," he said. "If anything, I would prefer to go to an Ivy League school (has a 3.8 GPA). I want to be a physical therapist, and I feel that the education at an Ivy League school would be the best situation for me."

As a freshman, Owens bench pressed 185 pounds for 34 reps at the 5-Star Performance Camp.

"I mainly try to work out for endurance and muscle stamina," he said. "I train at a quick pace so I can build up more than just (brute) strength. I do low weight for a lot of repetitions.

"I'm also a wrestler. As an eighth grader, I won state in my weight class. Last year - as a freshman - I was the only one to qualify for regionals. I qualified for state as a sophomore (in the 285-pound weight class)."

Last season, the Warriors advanced to the playoffs, although they were bested by powerhouse Euless Trinity in the first round.

What are the expectations for the '11 season?

"Our offense has come a long ways since last year," said Owens. "We've done a good job of finding our identity. We have a great coach who is molding us into a high-paced, no huddle offense that is constantly moving.

"I'm really excited about the season. It gives me chills just thinking about it. There's no way anybody should physically stop us. We have a very intelligent offensive line that is also very powerful. Our center is a little ball of fire who will hit you."

Owens' father said that Iowa and SMU are among the other programs that are showing interest, adding that the Mustangs are a family favorite.
