"I called Coach (Benjy) Parker from Troy tonight and we had a nice conversation," said Brandon Timmons. "I asked him about a scholarship and he said they've already offered.
"I was pleased to hear that, and I'm very glad to get that first offer. I had the grades in high school (at talent-rich Olive Branch, MS), but I wanted to better myself as a player at junior college.
"I had offers from Florida International and South Alabama in high school. Currently, I'm receiving significant interest from Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Oklahoma State."
Is Timmons thinking about committing soon?
"I'm not sure yet about committing early," he said. "I'm looking for the best option and if something happens (with a verbal), it happens.
"I'm weighing all my options. Troy does put a lot of defensive linemen into the league. They're all about next level (NFL) stuff, and that's what I'm about."
As a freshman, the 6-foot-3, 250-pounder recorded 25 tackles (including 4 TFL) and 5 sacks.
"My goal for this year is to get seven-plus sacks and help my team to the JUCO National Championship," said Timmons. "We're looking good and we have a good group of players coming in.
"My class includes great players such as Terrance Evans, Bakari Trotter and Donald Hawkins."
