"Tech seems to be a perfect fit for my style of play. I love to throw the ball. I think I would fit in perfect there."
How does Higgins describe his game? What was his reaction to receiving his first scholarship offer?
"I can do it all," said Higgins. "I like having the ability to escape the pocket and either throw on the run or make plays with my feet.
"It was an indescribable moment when Tech offered. I was extremely excited. It was awesome. It was special and I really appreciate their coaches. I really like their coaches.
"After I got the offer, I went and called my dad right away and let him know."
Hutto, one year removed from a 2-8 season, went 9-2 in 2010. The Hippos captured their first district title in 32 years with Higgins running the show on offense.
"It was amazing and another indescribable moment," said Higgins. "We had a great team. This year, we lose several key starters on offense, but there are some guys coming up who we expect big things from.
"We should have a lot of speed and possibly be even better than last year."
Higgins threw for more than 2,000 yards last year with "25-to-30 TDs." He added approximately 450 yards on the ground.
What are his plans for the summer? Will he commit somewhere soon?
"I'm going to try and make as many camps as I can," he said. "I'm going to visit Louisiana Tech. I'm going to get it done (commit) as soon as I can. I'd like to do it in the first month or two of the summer so I can focus on winning a state championship for Hutto."
