"Coach (Curtis) Bray is the Iowa State coach I've been talking with," said Sulphur Springs junior RB Kendrick Daniels (5-7, 150, 4.3). "Coach Bray said the head coach (Paul Rhoads) is on vacation. They want me to talk with him when he gets back so they can make the offer official.
"They said they've watched my film and really like it. Coach Bray said they're offering me; they're going to have a scholarship for me and they want me to keep in touch."
Not many defenders are able to touch Daniels, who has blistering speed.
"I have some good news about track too," he said. "We broke a school and possibly the meet record in the 4 X 200 relay at Gilmer last week. We ran a 1:29.
"I also ran a 21.9 in the 200 meters, although I slipped out of the blocks. I hadn't run that since I was a freshman, so it felt good."
Sulphur Springs made a deep run in the playoffs last year and are a contender for the '11 Class 3A state title. Daniels and WR Cody Clayton will keep opposing defensive coodinators awake late at night this fall.
Daniels' first offer came from Arkansas State.
