NO. 9 OUACHITA CHRISTIAN (10-3) AT NO. 4 SOUTH PLAQUEMINES (10-3) -- Two perennial small-school powers get after it tonight on the delta in Port Sulphur.
South Plaquemines is hungry for a state title after getting upset in the finals last year by Haynesville. Ironically, Ouachita Christian ousted the defending state champion Golden Tors from the playoffs in the second-round.
Last week, the Hurricanes overcame some sloppy play (eight fumbles and an interception) in a 22-6 road win over Southern Lab. Alabama commit Bradley Sylve, a four-star prospect, continued to shoulder the load for the Hurricanes, running for 176 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
Ouachita Christian took a 20-0 lead at the half last week en route to defeating district rival Delhi Charter for the second time this year. The Eagles ultimately prevailed by a 41-6 margin, with QB Paul Michael Garner, WR Mark Laird, and RB Josh Greer all continuing their run of excellent postseason play.
OCS' offense has been unstoppable throughout the playoffs, but they'll have to find a way to avoid the relentless pass rush of Fitte.
The bottom line here is speed and Sylve has it. Lots of it. He's a future wide receiver in college, but the senior is wearing a variety of hats for the Hurricanes this fall, and they'll get the football into his hands as much as possible.
Look for Sylve to once again carry the Hurricanes to victory.
